The man in this photograph was identified as Mr. Khalfan Marhoun Mohammed Al Salmi from Daaris, Nizwa state. He was one of the local traders in Souq Nizwa who started his workday immediately after Fajer prayer. He was known for selling baked sweet potatoes (Findal) and carrots, which he is pictured removing from the clay stove (Tanoor) in this photograph. This would have been considered a coffee shop for visitors to buy snacks while perusing the goods for sale in the souq. We no longer see such stations in the modern souqs of today as they were replaced with more modern coffee shops. He passed away on 24 September 1987, may he rest in peace.
