This young Omani woman is wearing a colorful dress and scarf with plant inspired patterns. Her scarf is held in place with golden pins called “uqam” which look like triangles on either side attached to black woolen thread. Her forehead is painted with a special paste made of sandalwood which was considered a beauty enhancing product for Omani women. Traditional Omani houses often did not have high ceilings and in turn doors were also smaller and required the residents and their guests to bend down before being able to enter the home.
